I want to install OpenBSD again for the first time in a few years, but I'm a bit unsure which version I need for a 64 bit processor. Anyone know which group the Core 2 family fits into?

AMD64. The other one is 32-bit.

It is fairly confusing but basically...

    i386 / x86 etc = 32 Bit

    AMD64 / x64 = 64 Bit

So the question isn't so much with group does it fit in (as it can run either) more which system you want, 32 or 64 Bit.

    Hope i helped.

    i386, i586 and i686 are all 32-bit :p

    Core 2 is i686/IA-32 and AMD64 compatible.

    Core2 is x86_64, thus AMD64 ;)

Since we posted at the same time yesterday... I didn't even see your reply... And I find x86_64 less confusing to plebs then AMD64 (which isn't strictly for AMD ;))

Sure, but AMD did come up with it, so I don't mind rubbing it in for Intel :D

Well, 64bit was used long before Intel and AMD joined the scene...

Make sure you install bsd.mp from the distribution sets and run it from the bootloader..
