Huh, apparently it 'only' runs at 3.2GHz :jawdrop:

This probably being the 'budget' intel hexacore, I wonder how much it'll cost? £500? If it's reasonable I may be tempted (because so many games out there will benefit from those two extra cores :eyebrow: ).

Well as the i7 965 & 975 both cost over $1100 I would say we are looking at $1200 minimum for this new 970 Hexa-core CPU.
I read the sorce but if the 975 is a Quad-core CPU then wouldn't a Hexa-core be a higher number like the i7 980x. I think the i7 970 will be a 3.2GHz non extream Quad-core in line with the *970, *980x, *995 (*= Not out yeat), or something like that. Like with the Fist Gen i7 family of 920, 940, 965EX or Second Gen i7 Family of 930, 950, 975.

I've read something about the 6-core "Gulftown" not running quite as fast as expected. Something about software only taking advantage of 4 of the cores?

Personally, I'm more looking forward to the i7 930, which should incorporate all the updates previously only found in the LGA1156 versions. I might be wrong, though.

Yes you are right azrael. Looking forward to the i7 930 myself but if they release a hexa core 970 at a good price I might get that.

Standard intel pricing for flagship models (XE) chips are around $1100.

So, if the 980XE is going to be $1100, I would expect the rumoured 970 to be around the $850 mark.

You'll find the quad-core 975XE drops from it's current pricing point as it's no longer the flagship model.

Intel had such a good plan going for naming... then they throw in the Dual Core i5-6xx some priced over the quad i5-750 and the hex core 970 when the 975 is quad... why...

i thought the hex cores would be i9 1xxx and not i7 9xx. are the hex cores gonna be 45 or 32nm?

    32nm

all the new cpus (hex core 970, quad core 930) are gonna be 32nm Westmere CPUs.

I'm sticking with my i7 lol. Useless hexacore, since most things can't even take advantage of 4 cores.

    I thought the 930 was just a 920 rehash, not a die-shrink?

Now this is why i bought i9...

I now have an upgrade path that doesn't involve buying a whole new motherboard

My bad, looks like the hex core 970 is the only new i7 chip on westmere. the 930 looks like a higher clocked 920 (on 45nm still), which is a missed opportunity by intel.

no such thing as i9. you mean i7/socket 1366.
