Hey guys, so here it is, i dont exactly know what it is i need or even if they do something that can do it but...

I do a lot of fixing and buildings PC's as a sort of home business aswell as maintaining my own family PC's and more often that not it doesnt have a wireless card or dongle that i can use to connect to my home network for updates and drivers etc.

My Router is located under the coffee table in my living room with my NAS drive and virgin media stuff; i do all of my work at my dining room table which is where my printer and my PC cupboard is (you know, software discs, old components, cables, HDD's etc) and instead of having a cable running from router to the PC in the next room (and the possible tripping and falling of family members :D) i'd like something like this:

router --> wireless box of some sort that picks up the routers internet --> cable from said box to the pc im working on

it would be "said box" that im not sure exists nor would work but would like your ideas here guys...

    much love :)

So you're looking for a router that uses WLAN as the WAN? I'm not aware of anything like that.

you could make a wireless bridge using 2 AP points into a switch and other into router

or easier home plugs instead ?

umm, maybe i've missunderstood something, but why not use this?

got one for my father inlaw, self installing on any os xp and newer. i don't know the price of homeplugs, but i think this is cheaper. or you could get the n version (150mbps) for twice the cash.

edit: any brand will do, got a netgear for my father inlaw

i guess you could use a wireless dongle depends on the signal strength i guess

ive never found dongles to be very good to be honest.

I have one of these. You log into the web interface, get it connected to your wifi and it then distributes it to the four inbuilt lan ports.

Im pretty sure thats what i was looking for :) either that or the homeplugs.

As for the dongle suggestion, ive used these before but i have found that they arent always reliable especially over distance and also if im fixing more than one at a time i would need more dongles, the bridge does seem like the best plan here :) thanks guys!

Hi I have the same kind of set up as you want.

I am using an old LINKSYS router as the connection to my pc

If you can find an old linksys router for cheap then just get that and put DD-WRT on it. You also have the option to overclock (or underclock) the processor and change the power supplied to the antenna's. I must say that this is brilliant software. I have been using this setup for over a year now.

Also if you decide to take this option then just PM me and ill help you with setup.

    One more thing...
If you were also thinking that a nice wireless boost would be nice. The software can also make the router act as a wireless bridge.
