    So what happens if Ireland continues to stick two fingers up at the EU, what if Ireland refuses to pay any penalties?

    See Greece. The buck always stops somewhere - generally at the feet of the people who can't dodge it (i.e. the average bloke on the street). Not that anyone is exactly free of blame - I didn't hear the common people complaining about all the jobs the dodgy Irish system generated. It's a free credit now generation, worry about what that really costs another day.
