I'm about half way through building my PC and the next thing on the list is getting a power supply. The bit-tech buyers guide claims that 850W is enough for the high end PC they spec up, but the PC I'm building will be more powerful than that, and I don't know whether to make the jump to 1000W. My spec would be: i7 920 @ 4.02 GHz 2 * GTX 275's 2 * Water pumps 2 * HDD's 2 * Optical (1 blu ray, 1 dvd) PCI Wireless PCI-E Asus Xonar + cold cathodes, fans etc. Would the 850W seasonic in the buyers guide be enough for that little lot, or would it be better to go for the 1000W be quiet power supply, which of scan is the same price.
Personally. I'd go with the 850. I run two 4870's, Phenom 9950@3.5ghz, 9 hdd's and umpteen million fans on an 850, quite happily.
850W should be fine, unless you're planning a third 'card at some point (if your motherboard even supports that!).
Oh nice, that calculator is nice. Tapped in every last bit of the system and it came back as I need 695W even with my CPU well O/C'ed. So it seems 850W will be sufficient with then some headroom left over for whatever gets added later
