I think so too.
All the ORAC3 visitors must be bogging it down or something ?
I am finding it a lot slower than usual too.
Thats what happens when half the planet bombards the site all at once to get a glimps of the finished ORAC3...Atleast the site stayed up though...I know theres been quite a few server changes and updates in prep for the article..
thats what i thought. is there anyway to see how many people have read the Orac3-pt5 today?
Yep as someone pointed out, the images in the article are using about 99% of our outgoing bandwidth. So thats why it's very sluggish, although actually it's not as bad as it was ~1hr ago
Heh, slow? It's taking about 5+ minutes a page over here. It's dial-up all over again.... Feels like 28.8 even though I'm on a 1.5 ADSL.... Damn orac, damn you all!
im getting 500BYTES a second off bit-tech atm
its taken me 10mins to get from the front page to posting this.
And now we got slashdotted again...
Go and do something useful for a few days while the traffic clears
The MOMENT my god damned exams finish, (literally, the day) Orac3 comes out and it's time for BiT surfing, it's a pain in the ass to surf...
at least i won't have a massive spam-post count now
Grr. Bloody /. ruins all our fun...
Just more reason for me to post more on other forums
w00t, time to spam AMDMB with their 1000+ page long threads
Everything seem to have gotten back to normal....finally....
yep sure is
Well the discussion thread has had - 600,316 Views and I would imagine that the actual number of people who just looked at the article is alot more than that...
I'm impressed that the boards can handle that kind of traffic, I guess things were all beefed up in anticipation... I have to say I was getting major timeoutage about lunch time from work.
The boards didn't have to handle too much, the page is static. Was just the server dealing with so many requests that was causing timeouts.
what does that mean exactly? (no server-side processing?)
ones its loaded its loaded it needs nothing more from the server
The forums are dynamic as it has to connect to the mysql server to get information on the new posts..new threads...updated view and thread counts...ect....
Everytime you go to a new page or even hit refresh *on certain parts of the forums such as the main page* you get new information from the server....
Gnome's article is static on the other hand...nothing changes there unless its updated in code *minus and banner rotation, ect...*
Now it is 3:30am here so if any of this doesnt make since...Ill fix it in the morni...errr afternoon when I get up
