Probably going to order a 7850 to tonight, but just looking at toms hardware's review it says that the card suffered problems playing games. Any 7850 owners care to comment? Also, how does it compare to the 560 ti 448 version. As I understand it, the 7850 beats the 560 ti but what about the 448 core version. My monitor is 1080p so I doubt so I will run out of vRAM on the 560. Hmm I don't think you will see any improvement over a 560 ti 448, that is unless you overclock it and even then the 448 could overclock to similar performance. Games like BF3 would actually be worse off by about 10% I believe. Newer drivers have made the AMD cards more appealing but you still won't see much benefit unless you are looking for lower power consumption.

I don't have an 560 atm if that is what you are talking about (I currently have a 460 se). Its just that there aren't many good reviews comparing the 560ti 448 to a 7850.
I have owned a power color 7850 (reference design, stock clocks) since a few days after release. Its fantastic, although from a personal POV if i was to buy one today i would get a better heatsink on it, probably an XFX or Asus to reduce the noise of the fan (not that its loud at all at idle, but my system is deathly quiet), but they were £20+ and in short supply when i got mine. I have had no problems in games or any crashes at all, everything runs buttery smooth on my 1200p screen, although im not an FPS man so cant comment on BF3, Crysis 2 etc that can really push cards. I had my GPU before this one for years, and see no reason why i would consider upgrading again in the next 2 years unless i win the lottery and can get hold of multiple 30" monitors. I have not been injured by my graphics card yet, so it's probably safe.

True the 570 is cheaper and faster at the moment and is certainly worth looking into if raw performance is what you are after. On a personal level i would still go for the 7850 for its much lower power consumption and more VRAM which may not be an issue now but could well do in the future with new games or higher resolution monitors. My old 4850 was doing me proud still except for the games it was being RAM limited (only 512Mb) on which went from the occasional one (GTA4 being the first big game it really couldnt do well) to quite a few games, to most new games.
I bought a sapphire 7850 2gb for my new build in sig. Although the build had only been up and running for the last few days I have played alot of BF3 and can report it has been faultless, out putting 45 fps solidly (or higher, upto 65ish in certain areas). Just had a quick read of the tomshardware link you posted, I certainly haven't expirienced any booting issues yet, and I did alot of bottling trying to get windows to install off USB! I would recommend. I did originally look at the 448 core 560ti, but any comparisons I saw put the 7850 on top
The best thing about a 7850 is it only needs 1 PCI-E 6pin, which is a godsend for me who's system can push near 400w , so getting a 560Ti 448 could push it too far which I dont wan't to do. They overclock very well too, its not uncommon to see them hit the high 900mhz or 1ghz mark (which is the same as the 7870!). IMO buy a 7850 if your willing to overclock it, and want a low-powered but powefull solution. Its an ideal HTPC GPU too.
In the end I think Im going to go for the raw performance as a 570 beats a 7850 by around 15fps on 1080p on Battlefield 3, and solidly beats it in pretty much everything else. Also, this card is the same price http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1280...z-shader-1500mhz-480-cores-dp-hdmi-plusfree-b
GTX would be my vote. Powerful card. Course, I am biased as I have never been impressed with AMD cards. Admittedly it is likely just my bad luck, but the Catalyst could never do updates with failing somewhere, I find them loud and I have been underwhelmed by their performances with the games I played.
Well, in the end I ordered a asus 7850, as the 570 wouldn't fit in my case Also, I can go crossfire in the future, whereas I wouldn't have enough power to sli a 570. Thanks bit tech, helpful as ever
Bought an HD5870 when the HD7xxx was released, got it for 120€ (brand new and asus voltage tweak) ... it is 2 gen old and more than capable
Well that that sorted then! No, im sure you will not be dissapointed - I'm certainly not Think im going to have a go at OC'ing mine tonight now. I noticed that the Catalyst software has a hand slider bar for easy OC. What temps should I be looking at when OC a GPU?
I have an HD7850 from MSI and not had any probably bar not turning on VSYNC in Ghost Recon. Its a great card.
