Hey- Is it safe to assemble a computer w/o a case to make sure it works, install Windows, etc...? My case is backordered, so I am without a computer, is it safe to assemble a computer on a desk of something for a short period of time? Thanks
yup, done it quite a few times, just make sure u do it on something where it cant get damaged, i like to use a piece of foam that the mobo comes with, dont do it on an anti-static bag! the outside of the bag conducts electricity and you could fry your mobo.
Well i know it conducts, but that's never stopped me A quick tip - to turn it on, short the power button pins on the mobo with a screwdriver or something of that sort.
The little electricity gremlins! You should be fine, don't worry about foam or something, provided you have a nice, clean desk without any nasty bits on it, you should be fine.
Pffff, been running mobos off the outside of antistatic bags all day and my test rig sits outside a case on one all of the time. Imo, the claims are totally unfounded - it doesnt matter. Just dont try to plug in stuff when its on, it generally doesnt go down well.
well i woz getting the backplate off my mobo (bought a new hsf) i woz twisting and turning it. Place it on a clean desk, i always do... and no mobos have gone wrong. *Touches Wood*
