I installed windows 7 64bit a week or to ago and ever since my 3rd drive has only shown up as unallocated. Even when i switch back to xp its not working. Any sugest on if there is a way to recover the disks data, either by forcing it to see the partition or copy the data? Or is it just a waste of time, should i just format it and start using it again?
Third drive? Do you mean third drive partition or a physically separate third hard drive? What's on it - stuff you have backed up? Steam games you can download again? Irreplaceable childhood memories? If the data doesn't matter, wipe it, format it, and go from there. If the data does matter; If it's an actual third hard drive try connecting it to another PC as another logical disk, and see if it's recognized. If it isn't there are data recovery programs around that might help; Recuva's a freeware from the people that make CCleaner. If it's a partition the problem is more complex as the second computer won't want a second primary partition (which I assume would be the first partition on the HDD) attached to it. You would have to delete your primary partition (and your new W7 installation with it) to attach it to another computer in the hope that the second computer would recognise the remaining partitions. That's a pretty bold step and one I would avoid, at least until you've given everyone else the chance to submit better ideas.
