I built a pc for my son's friend about 3 weeks ago.

It all went well, pc booted fine and windows install went fine too.

I left, he played games for the rest of the day.

Next day I get a phone call from him saying it's stuck in a boot loop but it seemed like the power supply clicking itself on and off. I go back round and take the panels off and redo the wiring just in case I've inadvertently caused a short or something which seemed to do the trick.

About 2 weeks later ( today) and it's randomly started doing it again, I mean wtf could it be.

AMD ryzen 5500, 3060ti, 500gb crucial ssd, 16gb of ram and I think a Corsair 600w PSU. It's all in a Nexus case I believe that has a built in fan controller.

The 500w one i took out yes, its since fired up again and I presume its been working ok as i haven't heard from him again today.

    Its very odd.

    Sorry I didn't respond earlier but hadn't noticed I'd had a response.

Thought I'd put up a post about this.

My son's friend contacted me this evening to say the boot problem seems to have been solved as for some reason the bios was stuck trying to boot from two drives even though there was only one.

The problem he has now is that he decided to buy a new 1440p 140hz monitor and now if he tries to play any games (even old ones) with the frame rate uncapped in his words "The monitors just seem to disconnect and go black and all my fans including gpu and heatsink fans go quite loud, but I can still hear audio of the game and people in discord if I'm in a call"

Anyone got any idea what's going on?

    Hes running a 3060TI, a Ryzen 5 5500 cpu, a 1tb ssd and 16gb DDR4.

Cable is probably no good and not supporting bandwidth, make sure he uses the one that comes with the screen, not just any old crap he used before.

His fans will go loud simply because he'll be flexing the hardware far more than before.

Thank you for that I'll let him know, I think the fans rev up when the screens go black though.

Just found out he is indeed using the cable that came with the monitor.

A long shot, but try disabling HDR in the Settings app. I sometimes have the same issue and turning HDR off fixes it. I usually then turn it back on after a restart.

If it is revving up after going black, sounds like a GPU crash particulalry if happens after uncapping fps, if he locks at 144hz does it run fine?

Found out hes already sent the monitor back think that was the issue but its doing it with his 1080p monitor as well, hes contacted overclockers to see what they think.
