    Hai guys !
A little tale of 1 PC...
Yesterday I had to make some isos for me daddy (work cds, safety presentation for his company, as he hasn't got any CD drive on his small laptop).
Thing is, they're SecuRome'd, so had to get a special program to do it, a commercial one.
I install the [lie] trial [/lie] version, and do some things to be able to run it. (don't ask, it's forbidden!)
Everything works fine, iso done, shutdown PC.

Today I reboot, and oh my, when I right click on my start menu, "task manager" is grayed out ? No "Run" button in start menu ? Regedit disabled by Admin ? But I AM the admin ! Summin's wrong....
So I reboot in safe mode, pop out my anti spyware programs, and scan.
Got very nasty things, with among them Virtumonde (Vmundo) and Win32.Murlo.ff (semi-rootkits, no less) for those curious / who had them.
They had also borked my antivirus, so I had to reinstall it also.
After numerous reboots, scans, deletes, using special programs, and so on, I (think) I got rid o' them. That was really scary.
Guess I'll be more careful with those kind of software in the future...not that I prone piracy, it's just useful sometimes. I could've used a free program to do it, or the real trial version.

(to mods : tell me if I mention anything forbidden, I tried to be as UNprecise as possible in this subject, or feel free to edit anything.)
    kthxbye

Piracy and malware are often associated. I'm glad you learnt from the lesson.

I know that, but it was the first time it happened to me. I don't want to sound like I'm complaining, it's just that I wanted to share the "funny" consequences it had on my system (menu dissapearing, etc...)
I'll be more careful next time. ^^
