One old Mondeo key, one PC, one enterprising young man, and a shite load of time- the result being- A key start PC!
    [IMG] [IMG]

At the moment there is noting conneted up to postions I and II, but the PC starts on III just like my motah!

It's not a security feature, anyone with a bit of pc experiance can bypass it- It's only there because I can.

Just have to find somewhere to put it now- and build a new front to my PC.

nice work! could connect lights and/or some fans for positions 1 and 2? May need a second psu to be able to use it properly, ie psu 1 runs main components, and psu2 ( connected to key pos 1 and 2) to power lights and fans. That way you can run lights and fans for display. Like wise if your using water cooling, could link that up to pos 2, so you can in theory run the cooling loop without the system being active.

Yeah it's am idea I'm considering, but what I would rather have is a quiet PC, and another PSU= more fans= more noise, unless I shell out a silly amount for a silent one.

I could set it the other way round so that position 2 runs fans and lights, and position 1 turns the lights off, so that once the PC is running it can be stealthed for when I'm watching films etc. It wouldnt mimic the car behaviour, but it would be more useful as a PC component.

thing is how much power do you need for lights and fans!
I have a PSU in my compaq ( old second hand and free so dnt complain its a compaq) with an almost silent psu.
Im sure there must be psu's around that are quiet and cheepish- they are usually low rating and as your not running anything critical ie mb and hdd it should be ok in my opinion.

You should get one of those cheap sound recorder / playback modules ( I think RatShack carries them, or at least they used to) and hook it to the start circuit. Record the sound of a nice throaty V8 cranking over (or a Turbojet) on the module... Then when you hit the key you'll hear the sound of the pc 'starting up'.

Not sure on that idea myself, I think its a it cheesy- after all a V8 is the sound of 8 500cc cylinders full of petrol exploding- not some poxy little playback module. The idea is good it just wouldnt really work.
