    I would be over the moon if more developers made use of OpenGL instead of DirectX, it strikes me as a far better situation to have an open set of API's for this level of work.

    Well, one thing that D3D doesn't easily give me access to is enabling triple buffering. With OpenGL there's a driver setting for both nVidia and ATi drivers.

    Also, we shouldn't forget that OpenGL-based software could be much faster and easier ported to other operating systems than Windows. Using D3D pretty much locks you in. I know it's somewhat of a moot point at the moment, but still...

    do we need new graphics cards for OpenGL3.1? or current Geforce 8 series+ and ATI HD2 series+ will be able do 3.1??

    Im guessing with nvidia you may need new hardware but with ATI you probably do not but ehh who knows all I currently care about/waiting for is OpenCL ^__^
