Ahh, the beauty of side quests eh? I bet you all thought I'd given up on this.. I actually put about another five man hours into it but did not take any pics. Any way, the top was lacquered and sanded back about five times. The burr is full of tiny pin holes, and they each spit out a bubble when you start the lacquering process. As such it required a shed load of work, just for a small piece ! but detail is king. Any way, months ago I ordered some gold leaf sheet with adhesive back. It is kinda like vinyl, but it's stiffer and more brittle. Here is what I got. That is just the top. I also did a lot of edge painting/feathering today also for the other parts. All that is left to do now is wait for the two coats of lacquer to fully harden, then cover the inside of the top with gold, then assemble. But yeah, it's still in progress
Well I decided what I am going to do next. Firstly I want another valve pre amp, so I ordered that earlier (around £10). Found this stuff. And some chrome film. It has a protective coat on, it's much more reflective than the pic. Same knob I used only in chrome was £1.70 odd. And I got another one of those 2a AC bricks for £7.80 all told. Got some silver feet for 99p from China. So less than £20 all told, with the PSU. Then I am going to get myself one of these next week (well, order it at least) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2017-New-...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 Because it's £650 cheaper than the real one and then use them as a combo
I've been working on Project : MK2 for a while now. I decided on bog oak. Oak that has sat in a bog for god knows how long, then pulled out and sliced. It's cool stuff. Has like white/crystal coloured lines through it. That has had 8 heavy coats of lacquer. Sadly the amp was missing the IOs So I made my own. Testing yesterday (phase etc) Thankfully the seller refunded me the £7.20 odd it cost to buy the Van Damme cable and copy plugs. I got a somewhat reasonable pic of the MK1 whilst I was testing. It's a bit dusty, mind..
