Hey guys its been awhile since I've looked to see what new pc parts are out and what is good. I need a new laptop and have no clue what to get. My buget is $2000. I want alot of power to play all the new games and have enough power to not have to buy another laptop for awhile. I dont have enough understanding to build one. So ill have to buy one. So can you guys give me some advise and help me decide what to get. Thank you, CandyMan
It might help to tell us what country you live in. If you're in the US, take a look at this offering from Cyberpower. Click to customize it, upgrade to a Core 2 Duo T9400, 4GB of RAM, maybe 500GB of HDD space if you feel like stepping up from 320GB. As far as accessories go, get a separate mouse (I really enjoy my Logitech VX Revolution). 64-bit Vista Home Premium SP1 should be selected by default, and Office 2007 is almost guaranteed to be cheaper if bought from your university (assuming you're in college). That configuration (including the 500GB hard drive and VX Rev.) comes to about $1882, before shipping. The only thing that would put it over the edge would be an extra battery. You may find that useful, but that's highly dependent on how you use it, so it's up to you. - Diosjenin -
I'm from the states. I'm out of college now and just looking to replace my desktop basically. I want the functionality of a laptop. I'll mostly be using for surfing the web doing some microsoft office stuff and playing games. New games wise. So i want something to be very fast and very very good on the graphics. i guess i havnt read enough about cyberpower. Do these guys make good systems or can i get better?
If you want a gaming-centric laptop that you can actually customize, Cyberpower is the best place. You can certainly buy game-capable laptops from ASUS or Gateway for $1400-1500, but they're usually complete systems, so you have no control over what components actually go into the build. Any better and you'd have to look at Alienware or something similar (which would be bulky and far, far overpriced). The GeForce Go 9800M GTS is about the most powerful mobile card on the market currently - though I can't promise any numbers for Crysis, mind you. - Diosjenin -
For a good gaming tower I would suggest Alienware if you have a few thousand to burn, if not then I would suggest a self build. Tomshardware.com normally have up to date breakdowns on the latest gear. As for Laptops I dont really know, I always see laptops as overpriced based on their hardware. I remember buying a sony vaio laptop a few years ago and was amazed to see that it couldn't play even the oldest of games! although I did cave in to sony style rather than performance!
