    A bear walk's into a bar... :blah:

Anyway, I'm aften getting a long pause when clicking on a link that opens into a new window using IE, I've solved it before but can't remember how. I've updated to the latest version of IE but it's still doing it (and last time I solved it while still using an older version). I can't see what it is that has caused this because I did not change or install anything around the time that this started.

Can anybody help? This is getting quite anoying...

    Cheers

I've had similar symptoms ever since I did a clean install of everything onto a new drive. I'm guessing some program has installed some older file versions in win/system or somewhere, but I can't find what. It's also not every link, just anything up to 30 seconds pause at times before the modem icon lights up.

Another symptom is that IE6 sometimes (but not always) takes several seconds to open.

I'm now using Firebird as default browser, an extension lets you switch over to IE if a page renders funny so I'm happy, but I'm keeping an eye on this thread for an IE cure.

    id try:

1: disc cleanup, especially temp internet files.

    2: adaware.

    3: cmd prompt>ipconfig /flushdns

if that didnt fix it, id probably get impatient and reinstall windows.

Another suggestion I found googling was to re-register various dll files,

    regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
    regsvr32 Shell32.dll
    regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
    regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
    regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
    regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

Didn't do anything for me, but YMMV :(
