Same situation as before at the moment, :( So busy at work due to the hot weather that I'm getting no time to do anything else.

However, the controller I've been using since easter has had no problems that I can find, so it should require minimal effort to make a couple of these.

if its anything like the one in your sig (and you said it was) then good jaerb steveyg. i dont blame you for not wanting to release the code, id find it hard to release even the schematics

where you able to implement the suggestions from the first page?

Also, did you put my idea of dimmed backlight in?

I'm afraid so (for now) - I don't get any time to do any personal projects anymore. It did get improved since this thread and can be found in the Extreme Cooling forum somewhere, but I never got round to doing a full write up.

I see.. last night I read a tutorial on PIC programming and I already checked my local electronics store. I found a PIC 16F84 with only 68bytes on ram, is this possible? How much memory does your PIC have?

It's possible, but the 16F84 is so old now it doesn't make sense to use it. Can you find the 16F628A or 16F648A anywhere? Or 16F872, 873, 876 or 877A anywhere? These are more capable devices with better operating characteristics.

the one i can find with the largest memory is a 16F877A with 368bytes. it is a small memory pic, right? or is it enough for building things such as your fanbus?

in the tutorial i read last night they used a 1024byte memory pic, but i can't seem to find one where i live :sigh:

You won't run out of RAM, Program memory or EEPROM for something as simple as a fanbus. Feature-wise, the 16F84 is lacking over the newer models which is why I'm not recommending it.

The 877A should be great - 8K for code (which you'll be extremely rediculously hard pushed to fill for this project) plenty of IO's and other features like the USART which you might want to use.

how long would it take to build 10 of these things? You'd sell all ten in a flash! $50 each is a cheap enough price i think? A couple of people want some customisations, extra pwm outputs, unique text/graphics etc... $100 for a custom unit sounds ok I wonder if you can patent this thing and maybe make a deal with someone big like zalman, thermaltake, thermalright, etc???

    excellent work btw!

...uh, dude, you're about a year too late. This thread is DEAD. Not only has it been inactive since Halloween last year, but SteveyG said five posts back that he wasn't doing any more because he didn't have time.
