    Hello,

Unfortunately the only locally available LCD here in aus is a backlit 2x16 character LCD.

I believe that it uses the standard character codes however I'm unsure. My problem is as follows.

It is not supplied with a cable or anything like that. It is mounted onto a PCB with a +5v and - terminal. Then on the side it has 15 holes.

Inside of the instructions it says what each of those pins do...

Would you guys, with the aid of the instructions, be able to help me wire it up to a 15 pin plug for use on my COM port?

To see the display I'm talking about go to

    http://www.dse.com.au

And on the leftmost toolbar enter in the Cat No.
    Z4172 and click Go

They have good service and delivery :)

The cheapest CF Display there will end up costing me 2x or more the price that the local one will cos tme..

    And both are 2x15 characters.

I found a link from the site I posted with some guy who wired one up from DSE.com.au

But, his was 4 lines. Sucks, mine only has 2 liners in the catalogue =)

Sounds like you'll need a serial backboard thingie if you want to control it with your serial port... otherwise you should just be able to wire it to a paraller port and use it. There's quite a lot of software for parallel lcd's and a few guides to be found that show you how to wire them up...

    Cheers,

LCD's kick ass - Me and chrix are making some, god knows if they have any chance of working :D But they should do. We made our own PCBs using an Iron + a photocopier, UMMM!

I was looking at the Serial LCDs at Crystal Fonts

The basic yellow backlit 2x15 LCD there is pretty much the same as the one available here in aus.

Do those ones hook up to parrallel or com port?
and either way, would someone send me the crystal fonts data sheet + the way they wired there one.

Then I can just match up pin for pin and wire it up and have LCD for $50AU

    Yay!
