    It it wholely untrue that Windows requires KVM. The Special Administrative Console provides serial access to the OS. It is not a normal component however; it has to be injected into a bootable image via Windows Deployment Services. Believe me it is a horrible thing and you wouldn't want to use it! ;)

    Systems such as HP Moonshot rely on this technology, improving the serial access would greatly lower the barriers to building up images for these types of systems.
