Taking the fight to POSIX rivals.
It it wholely untrue that Windows requires KVM. The Special Administrative Console provides serial access to the OS. It is not a normal component however; it has to be injected into a bootable image via Windows Deployment Services. Believe me it is a horrible thing and you wouldn't want to use it!
Systems such as HP Moonshot rely on this technology, improving the serial access would greatly lower the barriers to building up images for these types of systems.
