I had my USB printer plugged in which caused my install to crash two times before I unplugged all peripherals and then the install was fine.

It had an elegant way of crashing; just a message saying that the install had failed. The Apple installer was running fine and I could use all features including the repair disk unlike Mr PC who when fails, fails with an almighty crash, reboot ha.

What can I say, I never expected that the BSOD would migrate to MAC's.... funny thing is that it seems like windows is only just getting rid of those blue monsters. Do you think Mr Gates sent it to Mr. Jobs:hehe:. I would at the very least have expected apple to make the page some other color (or maybe a "flowerpower" blend of colors)

hrm another ignorant windows user :sigh: if you had read anything you would have known its not apples fault at all, its those who installed a GUI extension and then just simply upgraded there OS. I will stand by mac always, and I know its so much better at windows in almost everything(eccept the lack of games)

True, but it doesn't lack the majority of decent games, which run better and quicker than on windows ;)

    lol....

i have upgraded most of my computers from XP to vista without a problem. some of them have been running 24/7 without the need for reboots. seems like Apple users are just not used to being fault tolerant. us Microsoft users are used to formatting our windows partitions and starting over when weird things happen so we backup our data frequently it seems like the tables have turned. :D:D:D:D:D

    oh yeah

    +1 MILLION!:thumb:

Did you also read the part of the write-up that said it's not only because of APE and people without that software have experienced the issue also? Do you also know that 99% of the problems with like this with Windows are because of 3rd party apps and nothing to do with Windows its self. Just because the OS maker didn't write the software, doesn't stop anyone from blaming them. In fact, it's become an everyday thing for mac users to bash PC's because people install stupid stuff and don't know why their computer stopped working, so they blame MS.

the lack of quantity limits you to selective titles of EA games.

you can't play Crysis, World in Conflict, or Bioshock on your Mac with a 8800GTX can you?

basically, you spent the similar amount of money for a 8800GTX machine, but gets a Mac that lacks power, and don't have a lot of non-EA games to choose from.

    i think i'll take Vista and Dx10 anyway :p

The only games I need these days are Quake 3 Team Arena, Warcraft 3 + Frozen throne, Starcraft and SC2 (when released).

    Wow, not one EA game.

It's sad how this has already become a PC vs. Mac flame war.

Hrmm... yet another grammar/spelling ignorant fanboy. I like how the people in the Apple Support forums thread are freaking out like all hell has broken lose; the one thing that some Windows users definitely have on the majority of Mac users is the ability to troubleshoot their own systems. I wonder how many Mac-heads pee'd themselves after seeing the blue screen... :p

That said, I really take no side in this Mac vs. PC argument. All I have to point out is that both operating systems have their triumphs and their flaws; to say that one was better than the other would be like saying that a truck is better than a sports car (or vis versa). While both are automobiles (or computers, for that matter), they don't really serve the same purposes.

So you really take no side? Look at the rest of the interwebs and IT press and see how much of a stir Vista caused. And how many Windows user do you think "pee'd themselves" because of a situation on their computer they couldn't handle.
Percentage-wise there are just as many super users on the mac platform as on the pc and there are just as many that know no more than how to use a word processor and their browser.

Your metaphor doesn't really work. Both OSes pretty much serve the same purpose so it's more like two Toyota owners arguing whether or nor their color of Prius is the best, comparing stupid facts about lead contents of the paint, heating from sunlight etc. One of the cars might even have a media player hanging from the neck rest while the other has a simple car stereo.

If you look at how platform independent 99% of all users needs are then you'll understand that modern operating systems, even Ubuntu, will suffice. Then it's no longer a question of the name of the OS, but how intuitive it is to work with and whether or not you like the look of the hardware that you have to have in your living room. Which clearly explains why Apple is still gaining momentum.

Microsoft has with Vista tried to create a more intuitive OS and to some degree succeeded, but then tey go and shoot their own foot with UAC. Microsoft really wants this interest segment of intuitive computing but they always seem to mess it up somewhere along the lines.

And by the way it's pretty useless to say PC vs. mac since all macs are PCs today. If it's mac vs. pc then what if you are running linux?

    Guys! Broaden your horizon :)
