    Lame excuse...

Iron reacts with the oxygen of the air and forms oxides of iron or rust. It happens readily but you do not see it readily with naked eyes. It takes some time for the rust to be thick enough. (like the brown formation we know of as rust) Rust formation slows down because the initial layer prevents the oxygen and iron from getting in contact and reacting. With a good painted case (and most of them are galvanized) however it would take several years before any signs of 'rust' would be noticeable and even ages before your case collapses because of rust, unless you have your case outside in the monsoon 24/7 (I would worry about the hardware inside it more) the case would be fine.

It's so nice to have 1st hand feedback from manufacturers in here! Thanks Fractal :)

When are the new cases (Arc series, Define mini and Core 3000) expected to hit the shelves?
The bit-tech Arc preview said "Expected on sale in mid-January, 2011" but I still don't see it anywhere, nor the mini cases.

PS: the news section on the fractal-design website really should have timestamps.

Actually iron reacts with oxygen in the contact of water. It won't rust in a dry environment.

You've never lived in a humid country then? Rust accelerates here - all my keyrings and bare steel stuff I brought with me front the UK have rusted a lot in just 10 months. Anything touched by hands goes even faster: all my PCI brackets have visible spots of rust on them.

It may not collapse due to rust, but it looks bad. I think you over estimate how many companies would waste money on galvanising when they just spray them grey.

TAG: They will all be in UK in April. I'm not sure why we told BT mid Jan for Arc, that was wrong.

I think you mean '2mm' - not 5 - but no worries. My V1000 has 2mm side plates, and I think they're about the right thickness for unsupported sheet aluminium. Much thinner than that and you're running the risk of dents, not scratches. Aluminium may be pricey, like you say - even you're surprised by the bargain price of this case. I (personally) would rather they'd bumped the price to £100 and bumped the thickness of the metal accordingly...
