Basically what i want to happen is: stick a cd in my computer, reboot, and have a game autorun in linux using cedega

How would i go about doing this? What distro to use? how to autorun the game with no other screens or prompts in the way? no log-in either. Without touching the hard drive.

Also how to copy out the gamesaves out to a sd card upon exit and read those saves upon cd autorun

kinda like a game console/arcade idea im working on.

Why not adapt a Linux Live CD and turn it into what you want... Just reboot (from CD) and you get your linux environment without touching the HD... (all from ramdisk)

what would be a good distro?

most seem to have too much extra: 3 web browsers, 4 office suites, 9 media players

needs to be compact and fast loading

    [fanboy] Gentoo ;)[/fanboy]

But you can adapt a working distro to run from a live CD, and then you can incorporate whatever you want, and leave out what you don't want... The Gentoo way...

EDIT: This will help you I guess...

Hmm, you ask for a way to make a bootable cd using Linux, without using Linux... :eyebrow:

You want fast loading? My Gentoo laptop boots in 28 seconds (and I shave some off every day) on a Pentium M 1500 MHz with 512MB ram an a 5400RPM HD... (so not a real speeddaemon). It will probably load a bit slower from a live CD...

But tell me, what games you want to play... Actually, tell me what you want to do? Since the site that I gave you (on creating Live CD's) clearly wasn't the thing you were looking for...

right now the main problem is im having trouble installing/config/using cedega. im trying to use damn small linux. basically there needs to be just the stuff to run the game on the cd (no media player, doc editors etc)

    right now i've got:
damn small (3.0.1) hard drive install
    cedega5.1.tar.bz2
    cedega-engine-5.2local-update.i386.cpkg
    what do i do next

and then i worry bout the live cd

Either go cedega, or go live cd... live cd being the less difficult one I guess... Just make a live cd with the game on and its dependencies, an ditch cedega...

I don't know if there's support for midtown madness using cedega? If you allready got it to work (which I'm guessing), just make a working linux system, (with cedega and MTM), and compile a live CD up from there (including cedega and MTM). So you'll have it available when you boot from the LiveCD...
