I remember an article on ur old site(I think and I hope otherwise I`ll look pretty silly) about cutting a window in the side of a llan li case.

I am getting a llan li pcx70 soon and want to cut a window in it. I was hoping u`d be able to send me the guide or replublish it as I dont wanna mess this up.

    Cheers

Its actually alot easier than you would think m8, just take it slow and steady and make sure the prep is good such as using lots of masking and taping !!

Oh, and if youre using a dremel have lots of cut off discs handy !!!!

How did you get on with this?

We had so many enquiries from peeps not wanting to cut up their case that we had to get the window side panels in.

I still havent got round to putting a window in.

I been looking at it and am wondering weatrher I really need a window. I mean Im more an overclocker thana modder(although my last case was modded a lot) so I think that the lian li will be better as whole case without a window to impair the cooling

Why do you think a window will impair cooling?

I was talking with some ppl on another forum and one of them made a good point i though.

The idea of the aluminium case is to help dissipate the heat but if u remove a big chunk of the alu and put some plexiglass in instead this would change the cooling properties. maybe not by much but by some

And plus I`m still **** scared about taking my wizard to the case side

As someone pointed out its alot easier than you think. All it takes is a little extra planning to make sure your cut comes out cleanly. Use extra precaution such as double masking the panel to protect the brushed aluminum surface. Do at least 3-4 measurements to make sure your window is sized correctly. Make adjustments for areas such as handles and clips which mount the panel to the chassis. Finally, use a file, sand paper, or sanding/grinding bit to clean up your rough edges. There are plenty of options for attaching your window to your side panel including window trim, double stick tape, silicon adhestive or nuts and bolts. It all comes down to personal preference..

    Hey kopite,

I just did a window in the Lian Li this weekend and it was so much easier than I thought it would be. It even turned out better than I expected. And on top of that, it cost me less than $8!!

First you need to figure out what size of window you want. I used my mobo as a guide for what I wanted to see. The measurments ended up being about 9.5" X 11". Pretty much the size of a piece of paper with an extra inch on the width.

I used a pencil to mark the window on mine. And then with a right angle you can make sure that your measurents are straight and it all matches up. I wanted mine squared off because i think it matches the case better.

Once you have it marked, head for the garage with the side panel, a dremel, lots of discs (as aforementioned), safety glasses and a paint mask (i used a bandana). You can practice cutting the aluminum inside the window since this part will be removed anyways. I agree that you should tape it off to protect the rest of the panel but I didn't do that. Since I did not have a bench I just sat on the floor Indian style and put the panel in my lap and went to cutting down the lines. It actually worked better for me to stay just inside the line.

For the window I carried my panel down to Home Depot and found a piece of plexiglass that would cover the hole: $1.79

Around the edges I put chrome stripping which you can find at Autozone for $2.99. I bought two packs "just in case".

On the chrome I just cut 45 degree angles on the end of them just like you would if you were doing a picture frame. Once I fitted all of them together I just pulled off the adhesive cover and stuck'em on.

To stick the window on I just used a hot glue gun. I have some crappy pictures at home that I'll post but I'd like to use a digital camera if you don't mind waiting.

    Hope that helps!:D

    Cutting window holes.

Ok, You mask it all up, Draw your lines nice & tidy, Fire up the Dremel to 50 million RPM and RRRAAARRRRRR. You cut a nice line thru the masking, across your Beautifull brushed(or anodised!) Panel. 5H1T. May I suggest masking the outside, but also masking, marking & cutting from the inside, so any "mishaps" aren`t on view afterwards!
