So, my mom got me a nice pair of Sennheiser headphones, i was really gitty, but then, when i plugged them into the head set port on my Logitech x-230, the volume was really low, so, i plugged it directly into my mobo (no sound card), and it was slightly better, but still to low, and its not just these ones either, all my head phones come out low, yet when there in an MP3 player or w/e, they sound normal. All the audio volumes have been turned up, through windows, through NVMixer, and its still low. What do i need to do to get the default volume up higher? would a new sound card beable to out put higher volumes? any suggestions would be welcome.
Basic sound cards are usually designed to just supply a high-impedance amplifier, so unless stated won't do well driving low-impedance headphones. My old Yamaha card had two output sockets, one for the usual PC speakers with amplifier built-in, other for small standard speakers or headphones, so you could look round for something like that. Or a simple pre-amp can be built (or bought in kit form) to run off the PC's 12V supply or a wallwart maybe using a couple of LM386 chips, or a DIY cmoy design would work on 9V battery power.
