So, I had my PC crashing a couple of times recently and after a bit of fiddling with it I am sure it's the graphics card's power connection. Either the card or the slot on the mainboard. I started thinking about replacing everything but I don't want to spend that much. I currently have an E6600, 4GB RAM, an ASUS P5B-E, and a 8800 GTS/640. I want to keep the CPU and RAM and just replace the mainboard and graphics card. I thought about doing it while I was still in the UK but didn't have the money back then. Any advice? Budget is 200 to 250 Euros if there's a really good reason to go over 200. I would want to be able overclock, some gaming @ 1680. I usually prefer nVidia but ATI's 5 series is tempting.
Yes, unfortunately I have to replace that as well I guess because I'm afraid that when I had my PC shipped to the UK in late 08 they played football with the box and therefore my graphics card ripped the slot to pieces. It's been flaky ever since and I tried to get them to replace it back then but they said I couldn't prove it happened during shipping. So to make sure I eliminate all possible sources of problems I'd like to replace both. Also, why would I not get both for 200-250 Euros? MB will be 100 max for a decent quality P45 board and a 5770 will be between 125-150 Euros. A GTX260 around 150 but availability sucks.
I think you can get both with about 250 Euros. any preferences for the board. I have a HD5770 and it runs fine for that res. Get a 5770 i would say. you can get one for £130 do not know in Euros. also you can get a decent mobo for about £80 to £100.
Sounds like get a new motherboard since the old one is definitively trashed, and see if the problem keeps happening? I would hold off until Fermi arrives to trigger a price war, with any luck. No suggestions for P45 'boards, though, sorry.
Cheers! Yeah, seems like 5770 is the way to go and if my computer decides to stay halfway stable I'll hold out until Fermi. If only there was a release date other than H1/2010... Anyone have any suggestions for P45 boards? I can get a Gigabyte something-UD3LR for 80-90 Euros. Any opinions? //edit: spread some love.
