Is there a way to improve performance without sacrificing too many details.

The game is currently unplayable in DX11 mode. I get like 0.5 FPS in the menu with DX11 active. Im using DX9 with max details to get a steady 70FPS average.

The game menu doesn't allow it but can I mod setting files to selectively choose settings? I would love to get maxed out textures and geometry, but I don't need stuff like AA and probably ambient occlusions either.

2560x1600 screen here so the game really hurts.

What card are you using? Come to think about it, what CPU and how much RAM?

There doesn't seem to be a any real visual benefit from running in DX11 apart for slightly different lighting

You won't get that playable from tweaks. Stick with dx9.
