Well I've had no random reboots so I presume leave as is?

I'm losing track of it all what with all of Intel's half assed moronity.

No weird issues here, but running windows update didn't produce anything either, and I'm on Haswell.

I've had a couple of random reboots, where the PC just switches off like the plug had been pulled. It then tries to reboot, but hangs at the bios until you clear CMOS. (I was wondering whether my PSU was on it's way out... Though that is after the PC has been on all day and usually during gaming for a few hrs.)

Anyway, I've uninstalled them and put windows update on pause whilst I do further testing.

No, that will leave you vulnerable to Spectre Variant 1. Leave the previous updates installed and install the new update, which only disables Spectre Variant 2 protection (and fixes the reboots.)

    Serious question:
Do I install the motherboard update to reduce the meltdown / spectre issue or leave it as is?

Do not install the motherboard update yet; that includes the faulty microcode Intel has now abandoned.

Quite so. I have no idea what to install or from whom. Is there some sort of list we can refer to? "If you have x installed, you need patch y from vendor z"?
