A friend has offered me his XFX HD 6870 (Like this one). I currently have a Sapphire HD 6870 (like this one but with the early reference cooler)

Would I be able to run them in Crossfire, (Motherboard/PSU issues aside; my system is Crossfire ready) or will there be a multitude of issues?
Am I limited to Sapphire 6870s if I want to Crossfire? Am I limited to similar batch number cards as my card, or will a later model like the one linked above work?

    As always thanks in advance.

Yep. I'm running an xfx and a sapphire in crossfire. You can run different brands in multi gpu no problem. They'll both run at the slowest cards speed so if you had one with a factory oc then it would automatically down clock to the slower cards speed. Yours like mine both look to run at 900 so you won't have a problem there. You can probably clock both up to 950 without any voltage or noticable heat increase also.
