I've been thinking about upgrading recently, and am wondering if it would be worthwhile for what I can afford. I am looking at an Abit KV8 socket 754 motherboard and an AMD Sempron 3100+. I believe an overclocked Sempron can hit speeds of up to around 2.5GHz, which is roughly the same as my XP-M. But despite this and its 256K L2 cache the onboard memory controller apparently really does make the difference. Could anyone tell me if I'm simply wasting money or whether it would be a worthwhile upgrade for £150. Also is there a future for socket 754 or is it all going to shift to 939? Any help much appreciated.
754 is a waste of time IMO. go 939, bit more but more future proof with PCI-E soon to be released on these boards
