looking cool macro! im particularly impressed by the gold plating! :thumb:

Just an idea i had, but perhaps finishing the windows in the same way as the drive bay covers would look cool? ie, putting them on the outside with beveled edges? :)

    Hm.

To paraphrase mashie from zaps thread.. If your inspiration was a £20 ebuyer premod, then congratulations... SUCCESS! :D

Not a fan tbh, seems like you took something beautiful and cheapened it. :worried:
Still, I don't gotta look at it everyday, you must like it. Cleanly done and all that, just not my bag.

I think you are missing the point of the series. The idea is to show people new to modding a few simple ideas and techniques, and not to produce an ego massaging curiosity. :D

Have to agree, I'm not a fan of the overall look, but I feel that this is perhaps more a practice and exhibition of techniques, and what can be produced with them, than something of outstanding man-made beauty.

Doh, you posted as I was reading/writing. :D

I actually considered that as I posted... which took me a long time, I might add, cos I kept feeling that I was being harsh. I didn't mean to be harsh in the slightest, but I get a bit bored of the constant "ooh, awesome" posts and like to stir it up a little sometimes :D

As I said, it was very nicely executed and, as you say, does act as a great guide to wannabe-modders like myself.

Thanks for not telling me to naff off :thumb:

ps I did, of course, mean zaps thread.. not linears.. doh!

Is there a similiar way of 'dyeing' bolts/screws a different colour, as anodising sounds complicated?

I forget the actual cost of the plating system (this was done about 2 years ago) probably about £15 - 20.

This is not anodising but real gold plating by chemical deposition.

Yes, a nice Black and Gold theme would be good.... Like the John Player Special Lotus's of Formula One fame (Bet that's got some of you young 'uns guessing!! :D )

When I first saw this I had to check it wasn't posted on April the 1st! It seemed incredible you could buy a home gold-plating kit... I don't need one you understand, I just *want* one!!

I do remember an old April 1st joke years ago about a Chrome-plating cloth... Just wipe it over worn chrome plating and hey-presto gleaming new surface... I didn't try to buy one honest :D

Does anyone know of a modern-day supplier of Mr Macroman's kits?
