I am working on my first mod (which i will add is going VERY well) however, i am stuck in one area.. what is the best way to mount a window on ones pannel? I have been looking for some lock molding, but everything i have come across is much too big.. does anyway have any suggestions?
First, welcome to the boards! There are a couple of camps on this... Two Sided Tape cutting your window bigger than the shape cut in the metal panel and securing it with two sided tape (you can also use strong adhesives or silicone). I use this method. There is an example in the project logs by macroman right now doing it link. You can either put some molding around the window or not. I used car door trim from an auto parts store just for looks really but you can get good effect without. Bolt or screw Essencially the same technique as the tape method but using screws either drilled through the metal and plexi panel and using a nut on the inside or you can epoxy bolts on the inside of your metal panel so the bolt/screwheads are not visible on the outside of the case. Lockstrip well heck, you already know about this stuff. This molding by nature is very wide to accomodate the lock strip and the channels on each side so some people don't like it. I have seen narrower lock strip and even two channel moulding without the locking strip but it can be hard to find. Hope this helps.
All nicely, detailed above... on my window though i used some Velcro-strips to secure it, nice and strong, but also removable if need be
yeah, I thought about that but mentioned other adhesives but it stands worth mentioning specifically since it is such a good idea... I sometimes wish I had used velcro... thanks for the chip in inder.
The two channel moulding is really bad, It took me almost an hour to fit in the plexi and they say that the harder it is to fit a window the better it is, but the window still looks really un-secure from the inside.
hmmm... ok this is all good help.. thnx alot all.. i will keep you posted.. pics included.. i should be cutting the pannel 2nite thnx for the friendly welcome
