Guild Wars not so much an RPG but better graphics than WoW (not so cartoon looking) has no monthly subscriptions and if one of you goes away as long as he/she has internet access then they can still join you.

Final Fantasy XI? It seemed quite fun, though I only played for a few minutes...

I think the final fantasy games are too much grinding late game, or so i've heard. Dark age of camelot was loads of fun, but controls are weird at first.

    Thanks for the responses!

will look up all these games, try and give a few of them a shot. Neverwinter nights took my fancy, with what looks like a huge range of races / classes.. but the DM (dungeon mode) doesnt appeal to me, nor does the toolset. playing through on my own is okay, but much rather with a few friends to make up a party. is this possible? all the reviews ive read have been very brief on the pure multiplayer side, and focusing on either the toolset, SP or DM modes doesnt excite me much... if anyone could clear the confusion it would be much appreaciated.

    thanks!

    Graphicly Inferior

If you really don't care about graphics, then try Runescape, it has free and membership options, and the graphics aren't a strain on many computers.

    I'd agree with ^^^
It's quite fun as a casual MMO, and needn't be grinded for months to get a decent level, can be played from any browser, buuut the graphics and some of the players are terrible

    Free Online
Neverwinter Nights 2 (good story with multiplayer), Dungeon Siege 2 (slash and bash fun)

    Pay to play
Warhammer Online (RvR is a blast), Age of Conan, WoW

There aren't too many multiplayer RPGs with a good story and solid gameplay that are non MMO. But NWN2 is a must if your willing to try something new.

Despite it's age, Dungeon Siege is excellent in co-op. Good old fashioned hack and slash if you fancy it. The multiplayer world is actually is totall different and much larger than the single player world, it'll take you a bloody long time to get through it I gurantee. Me and Joe once tried, after a few weeks of pretty intensive play we were still no-where near the end.

Icewind Dale - basically Baldur's Gate, but designed exclusively for Co-op.

For something a little bit different, you might want to try Heroes Of Might & Magic 3 (the best in the series IMHO). Now it's turned based but the gameplay is awesome and in co-op mode the AI will give you some tough battles. A refreshing change from the more traditional style of RPG. :thumb:

    Guild Wars..

for me Guild Wars:thumb: is the best online game i have played the last 3 years..
great PvP (get Factions for that)
amazing story (all the campaigns..personal favorite Nightfall)
    unlimited skills..quests..missions...challenges!!
plus you can loaded it in any PC no matter how old your system is!
great support and events from the GW team!
and the best of all is that you don't have to pay monthly fees cause its FREE
they even release an edition that include all three campaigns+ expansion!

the above reasons are just the basic reasons why i love this game so much!

NWN multiplayer is fantastic, some of the servers are enormous and have had over 5years worth of development put into them. The have all sorts of things that arent in the single player campaigns. I think its a great game, so much so that i still help maintain and update one of the servers :)

Guild wars is a very good CORPG with means co-op RPG, u can get a 14day trial free online somewhere or buy the starter pack for £1.99 at most game shops in the UK.
I love the game as long as you find an active guild your have hours of fun.
