I want to create a led light similar to the CCC ones but I want to use 5 x 5MM led's running off the 12V supply. Do I need 5 x 470ohm resistors or can I use one off the 12v supply ?

    i THINK this is right
    Code:
     | --LED--|
     | / |
     | / |
     |---470ohm ----LED--|
     | \ |
     | \ |
     | --LED--|
    +5v -5v

You can either use a single resistor as Ataraxia has diagrammed, or you can get something called a resistor network.

I used a 7 commoned 470 ohm resistor network in my BayBus.

It's basically a resistor with 7 legs on it so you can attach your power line to one leg, and your LEDs to the other legs.

I wired my BayBus up like this:

    Code:
    12v----leg 1
           leg 2--LED--|
           leg 3--LED--|
           leg 4--LED--|
           leg 5--LED--|

Yup, code RA26D is what you're after. At the massive price of 16p + VAT

Sorry to point people away from here to another site, but have a look at the HardForums , Uller has posted an improvement to something I built using an old 1995 Usenet posted Schematic.

It's an LED array connected to a Parallel port, that will flashup the CPU load.

Yeah I saw that a couple of days ago :) I was going to use the led's for backlighting the fans in the front of my case :D I've got an lcd screen on its way for cpu load :D Thanks for the link though

Oh, OK, well if you wanted to use the LED for back lighting, and weren't too bothered about HDD activety, then you could build up a small circuitboard, which would basically be a molex, and a five volt LED. If you wanted, you could maybe create a back light led bus, which would have one five volt molex, switches for each of the LEDs you wanted to light, and then run a cable to each LED using speaker connectors like you would with a fanbus/baybus
