Hello to everyone! This is my first post (Just registered). I saw this site from a post in a forum about 3 days ago and was amazed. All in my free time, I just come here and check so many things out. I must say a lot of you are very talented with computers!

I decided to start modding from inspiration from people's things here. First I want it to be very simple, since it's my first and I don't want to mess up majorly. I already am going to go buy my Dremel in a few days and then I am going to buy the case. Since myself and my dad likes cars, I am going to start of with building a window on the side. I plan on making it the shape of a car. (I hope I am not ripping someone's design off. I would hate to start off like that and if I am, please tell me!) After I do the window, I plan on adding some fans in. I don't want to start off with very expensive things because I think it's smarter to start off on cheaper things, that way if I mess up, it's not as big as a loss. As soon as I start I'll make a thread in the project part and post some pics with my digicam (If i can get the damn thing to upload images!)

If any of you have advice I would really like it since I am very new to this! I think I will even have problems installing led lights or the fan! I will have a sketch done soon.

    Thanks a lot!

The window sounds like a good idea, i like the thought of a car :thumb: .

just make sure you take your time, plan it well and dont ruch into anything, that is when it WILL go wrong :wallbash: .

a Dremel is a very good tool for case modding, and no moder should be without one.

If you want a place to upload your images to Uploadit.org is a good place to do it, but youe can only upload 20 images per account. :miffed:

ne way good look with your first project, hope it all turns out well.

Thanks very much. You guys are so nice to new people like me! I'm buying my dad a dremel soon :D for his birthday.

I have my own ftp from a friend where I can put images, except for some reason my fugifilm camera takes pics fine and all that but when I try to upload it, the pics are just red x's and they can't be found on the Camera. I think it may be the usb wire but I'm not sure.

Anyway here is kind of what I plan:
First I planned to make a window but with a car in the middle. But then I realised it can't just float there and it would need to be connected. So instead I am going to make the window just the shape of a car. My drawing really sucks so I am going to put some tape of the case for sure and trace a ferrari or something. This is somewhat of an example:

After that, I plan on installing some fans with leds on the side of the that are red, so the car window will glow red. Maybe I'll also add some neon lights in there to brighten it up.

After those two things, I'm not totally exactly sure What I will do. Hopefully I can buy a new video card and motherboard to stick in.

Some things I need to learn:
Installing fans (I've looked at some things and it doesn't seem that bad. Just need good measurments)
Making a window. (I understand how to use a dremel, but I'm pretty sure I need to put the glass on the inside right...lol and then drill it in.

    quick question:

Are there any certain type of screws I should use? I read the story about the guy drilling a motherboard with drywall screws. lol I know not to do that, but are there certain screws that are better for modding than others?

    Once again, thanks alot.

a lot of basic modding is pretty straightforward, just take your time and plan it out before you start hacking into your case. fans are pretty easy, I use either 6-32 or 8-32 machine screws to install them. personally I like the allen-head screws, I think they look better than your typical phillips head. basically pick what you think would look the best. a trip to your local hardware store just to look around, see what they have in stock, and to get an idea of what you could see putting into your case might be a good idea. for windows, yeah, they usually go inside the sheetmetal, but you have a number of options for installing them. you can drill holes and use rivets or screws, there's window moulding (really hard to make it look good with that, IMO), and then you have the option of using an adhesive, either silicon goop, or double-sided tape (the obvious advantage being that you don't have screws sticking out of the side of your case)
