I have a X-Fi PCI soundcard which has just disappeared altogether as far as Windows is concerned, it was working fine the other day then (as far as I can remember) I was on skype and having issues with getting the mic working, I tried something in the audio options which fixed my mic but now the only sound hardware showing up is the onboard realtec, which is not what I want to use. I know the X-Fi was working after I did whatever I did in Skype because the mic is plugged in to my front panel connector which is plugged into the header on the X-Fi but beyond that I'm stumped. I've tried reseating the card, it's definitely in right. The only other thing I've done lately out of the ordinary is capture some video through my firewire card for the first time which right enough was the first time I noticed the problem... Halp! It's plugged into an MSI C45 770.
Already had the issue. Stupid Creative drivers. What I did to solve the problem, is to uninstall any traces of Creative software and drivers from my system, turn off the system, remove the card form the system (well, as you are there, inspect for blown capacitors or any traces of burned mark or strange odors). Turn back the system, let Windows boot in and everything loads. Now turn off, and re-install the sound card into the system, and put the drivers. If the sound card works, but you have sound issues. Uninstall the X-Fi drivers, and download and install older drivers. If that really doesn't work, just before saying that the card is faulty, try it on a different socket in the motherboard, or different computer.
Agreed. I want to change my sound card, but I am don't to buy one, and end up not being Win8 compatible or some **** like that. So I am waiting for the Beta 1 release, and see if ASUS Xonar will have drivers for it, or have it's Win7 drivers work properly under Win8. I don't want to consider the dev. Preview... because well.. it's an early alpha version, and a million and one thing can change.
I don't even have a sound card at the moment. Just using the onboard sound. Keep thinking about buying one, but can't bring myself to spend the $$
Yeah My X-Fi does this sometimes. Pain in the backside. I can usually fix this in one of two ways: 1.) Open the Creative Audio Control Panel, go to restore defaults tab and click restore defaults. If that doesn't work 2.) restore drivers.
Agree. I'd always had creative and always had control panel crashes and bloated creative drivers slowing windows boot down. After spending 120 pounds on XFI Titanium and having it cause BSOD frequently when changing sound mode I had enough. Researched alternatives and found very high grade audiophile soundcard capable of gaming as well as music creation and multimedia... Auzentech X Meridian 2G. It was more expensive when I bought it but has been the best soundcard I've owned! No conflicts caused, no driver crashes, no bloated creative software slowing windows. I will never buy creative again.
Had this happen in Win7 64bit on my X-Fi Elite Pro, rebooted in Vista 32 and it worked fine. Re-installed the drivers (non Creative) and the problem seemed to resolve itself. Sent from Bittech Android app
Can't open the Creative Audio panel because "the audio device supported by this application is not detected". I'm pretty sure I can't restore drivers either as it's not showing up in the device manager either... At least it was cheap, served me well that card! I'll try a reinstall when I get a chance, see if it's not dead.
Happened with my Xonar DG twice. The drivers are probably for a previous operating system to what you are using (mine are XP drivers; only a £20 card). Just reinstall the drivers and keep physically reinstalling your card to the motherboard while the system is live until it works (worked for me).
Creative driver suck. Try the ones from Auzentech site, then manual install the driver only, not the whole suite. Most of their cards use the X-Fi chip, but they do their own driver. Alternately you could use the PAX driver, which is just a fixed version of the official Creative ones. Once again driver only, not the whole suite of stuff that comes. Also, make sure your X-Fi card is set as default. I used an external one for some testing once, and when I removed it, the sound defaulted to my nvida card instead for some reason... it took me a few minutes to realize why i had no sound. Sometimes something easy and obvious is overlooked as the first check.
