Hi all, n00b here. Just wanted to post my current project. It is about 50% complete. I Could not pass up a deal I saw at this surplus computer place. They were selling an empty Netwolves FoxBox internet firewall chassis for $5 USD. I figured for $5 I could not go wrong even if I could not make the mod work. It had no drive bays, was designed for an AT motherboard and is a VERY sturdy steel case. I still have to paint my burner and cut the hole for my 20x4 LCD display (going to go under the FoxBox logo), change the LED's to blue and paint the whole box. Here is what I have so far:

Wouldn't be such a bad mod I think. I've seen some cool desktop's before, so this one wouldn't be a misfit in today's 'culture' ;) Keep the pics coming

Oh yeah, I forgot to add what the system is running and some pitfalls I have had. It's an 800Mhz Athlon (No OC), Shuttle A1SI MB ( I can't remember the exact model), 384 MB Ram, Artec 32x12x48 burner, 20GB and an 3.8GB HD, NVIDIA TNT2 32 MB video, Digital Doc5 w/modded backlight and painted black. Nothing too powerful but it does what I need it to do. One thing to note. This case setup allowed me to lower my CPU temps by 10 degrees F. I only have the one 80mm fan up front, one 60mm fan on the CPU and 1 40mm. For now I have to have the power supply outside of the case cause it just does not fit. I will be adding a 1U server power supply that should fit in the case.

Sweet project Ivan. I'm currently working on tyring to fit a P4 2GHz in a small briefcase myself. I had to remove the PS from the case to make it fit, but it does work. Try that before you buy a 1U PS, unless the size of a standard PS is the problem. Just a suggestion. Good luck!!!

The drive screams terribly for a paint

A regular ATX power supply just does not fit, even on its side. The case is not 4U tall so a regular supply is about 1/2" too tall on its side:grr: It (or the motherboard, depends on how you look at it) is also about 1 1/2" too wide if I try to place it in the regular position. :eyebrow:. I considered taking my ATX power supply out of its case and mounting it that way but I am to chicken to have an uncovered mains source inside the case. A 1U power supply is the only solution I can come up with. I found a 300 watt supply for $58 USD. I may break down and buy here pretty soon. I just don't like the regular supply sitting outside the case. You can't see it since it sits behind the case, but I know it's there and it bugs me. :sigh: Yes I have to paint that drive. I actually have another one that has a black face but is out for warranty repair. It is slower but I don't want to void the warranty on the Artec burner just yet.:naughty:

It will be painted, at least a black drive will be in there. I am waiting for it. It should be in the mail anytime soon. This, again, is a work in progress. I would say that I am about 50% complete with it.A fresh cooat of black paint will envelope the whole case. I basically was test fitting everything and planning out the rear cutout for the atx backplane. So never fear, everything will either be black, blue or chrome.:hip:
