    It's been a while since i last posted but i need some advice.

    I'm looking at setting up a little NAS box using an VIA Epia board/CPU. At present i have two 320GB IDE Seagates which will be used for media storage and backup. I anticipate using FreeNAS installed on a CF card with an IDE-CF converter. In the future i'll be looking at moving to SATA drives but at present it'll remain with the IDE drives.

    My dilemma concerns the IDE channel setup. My thinking is that the CF card and media drive will be used the most therefore should be on as Master on independent channels. As the backup drive will only be used every 3 hours or so during the backup and will be copying from the media drive and not the CF card that it should go on as slave with the CF card.

    As such it'd be;

    IDE1 <---- CF card (w/FreeNAS); master <---- Backup IDE drive; Slave
    IDE2 <---- Media drive; Master

    Any thoughts or suggests on the proposed setup?

    Cheers
