Hi, I am currently upgrading my gaming rig, I already have a pair of ddr3 modules, but I just can't seem to decide on the platform.

    Either I get a 890GX + Phenom2 X4 925 or go a little cheaper and get a P55 + i3 530 and OC it like hell.

I am currently running an E5300 @ 4.1Ghz + HD 5870, I just don't want to run on old platform since my previous asus maximus died on me and it was such a hassle getting a good replacement board.

since the new bit-tech article (regarding multiple cores on games) pointed out that dual is good enough, and the i3 review also pointed out its good gaming performance and high OC capabilities, im considering getting it rather than the AM3 platform.

Any inputs would be appreciated, kindly help me make up my mind :)

btw, my choice of platform is kinda affected by my tight budget, I'll spend about $300 for both components, but I'm in the philippines, so its parts are a bit overpriced, specially those from top brands...

rest of the specs are as follows (not sure if its necessary to get an answer though)

    4gb g.skill ddr3 2000
    modded corsair h50
    corsair hx620
    2 x 500gb hdd
    modded cm690

I'd choose the i3, myself, but depending on the voltage, your old DDR3 might not play nice with the Intel stuff.

IIRC, ~1.65v is the maximum Intel recommend, and older DDR3 tends to run at 1.8v. I think.

I'm on newer ddr3 (1.65v), newly purchased, so it shouldn't pose a problem, thanks for the input.
anyone else recommend the i3 or am3?

I would go for the Intel i3, very good overclocking and has hyper threading as well.

    hmm, thanks for the suggestions.
only problem I just thought of with both builds is that my corsair h50 did not come with an amd retention kit, and there are no lga1156 retention kits for sale locally.

might have to scratch this 2 platforms because of that fact, hate running on stock cooler, and I still lack a pump, a rad, and the corresponding blocks for a good h2o build.

You have to have made 10 posts before you get the option for a sig.

Then it shows up in the user cp.
