Networks need help setting up a mail server

    hi ho there. i need to set up a mail server at school. i HAVE NO IDEA HOW. everything i find on the subject is usually for linux, which i know absolutly nothing about other than that it has more lil games than windows.

    do you guys know of any good articles on the subject? i can use win2k pro, XP, or linux. they are all avaible, but i prefer windows cuz im a bufoon in linux. i need a real good step by step guide if you know of one.

    alright then. i have to try this new software tomorrow morning. ill post how it goes.

    hope it doenst go like today, the power went out while i was in the middle of a VERY important document. an hours worth of work gone. argh. the thing is that we have backup power at school, its just it takes a few seconds to click on.

    I find running a mail server in linux a piece of cake...so easy.

    but it does depend exactly what it needs to do - presumably you need it to not just act as an smtp server but also handle mailboxes and use IMAP and POP3 for retreival.

    Linux can do all of these really easily, but I suppose a little basic understanding of how the OS works is needed.

    Can't say I've ever used windows for this, so as far as that goes I have no idea.

    if you need help on the linux side of things, drop another note back here (or in OS and Software :)

    Hmmm, well yeh its simple to setup on linux but in windows i believe you need the server edition of win2k as the pro version doesnt include the software. I would tell you more but my course doesnt cover setting up mail in win2k for another 12 weeks :(

    i hope this helps although i doubt it has.
