Hey all This one is for me, looks like the R5E is dying, the USB is going a bit screwy and the audio is getting distorted! And because its x99 there aren't any boards, apart from grey market ones from Aliexpress! I can reuse the RAM, but it'll be a now CPU and motherboard I think. What do people suggest? Money is tight for me, thesse are very trying times for freelancerss! At low as possible while keeping it as good as possible please. Sub £300, and even that would be a stretch!
So CEX will give me £56 in credit for my 6800k, and then I can gab a Ryzen 5 3600 from them for £99 (after the credit discount). What board should I go for?
Look at the 1600 AF. Whilst not quite a 3600 it is a 2600. Boards? Gigabyte b450 Aorus https://www.amazon.co.uk/Aorus-B450...us+pro&qid=1585658525&sprefix=b450+aor&sr=8-2 Strix b450 https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-B450-...d=1&keywords=b450+strix&qid=1585658564&sr=8-3 Msi https://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-B450-T...board&qid=1585658597&sprefix=b450+toma&sr=8-3 Those are about the best in class at those prices.
OK looking back at my choices. I would remove the Gigabyte. Quite simply it's not in stock, and says "7th April". However, I heard along the grapevine that boards were the hardest hit with the human malware, so I would get whichever of the other two that are in stock. Personally I would go Strix, as I think it's a better looking board. Don't like the gamer nonsense they added after the B350 Strix, but a great board nonetheless.
You should be hiding the worst part with your vertical gpu lol. I'm sure they make "wings" for that Kryos next too, Pete. They don't for my old Delrin one sadly, but that's not a next.

Not the 1st time I've seen you suggest the 1600AF and I take issue with you doing that for the time being. If you could find it for the $85 (<£80) RRP then fine, but it's simply not available at that price in the UK - that you haven't provided a link for it is pretty telling of UK availability tbh, considering that you have for the motherboards. Even in the US I can't find it or less than $120 which limits its value over the 2600 or even the 3600. Also, the OP has a 6800K which, like all Ryzen 5 x600 CPUs, is a 6 core 12 thread CPU - and comparing the 2600 to the 6800K (the 1600AF effectively being a rebranded 2600), they're 97th & 98th on userbenchmarks with pretty much identical performance - surely taking the opportunity to get more performance is worth the extra few quid? @Bloody_Pete, the 3600 would be a good choice based on the price you're getting from CEX - just don't expect more than a modest speed boost over the 6800K, maybe 10%. That said, I'd take the 65W TDP over the 140W of your Broadwell-E 6800K.
I took everything into account. IE - Sub £300, and even that would be a stretch! And yes, I didn't link to the AF. Simply because I didn't have time to research where to find them. They are available though, as RandomgaminginHD knows where to get them. I *think* it was CCL. This is not an "upgrade" from what I could make out. It is a fix for a broken rig. I would hope that any one with the capacity here would also have the capacity to do a few searches and find the correct CPU.
