Hi, I recently sold my 9800GX2 I'm looking to get 2 GTX 460's for a folding and SLI gaming rig. I've narrowed my search down to these: 1GB Palit GTX 460 Sonic, 3600MHz / 700MHz / 1400MHz >> £169.74 1GB Gainward GTX 460 GS GLH, 4000MHz / 800MHz / 2000Mhz >> £196.77 1GB Gigabyte GTX 460 OC, 3600MHz / 715MHz / 1430MHz >> £179.14 1Gb KFA2 GEFORCE GTX 460 - 3696MHz / 700MHz / 1400MHz >> £182.67 There's also this one, 2GB Gainward GTX 460 - 3600MHz / 700MHz / 1350MHz >> £210.87 I'm leaning towards the Gainward 1GB, just need a hand with the spec and coolers. Looking for lowest noise and best performance. Any advice would be great, thanks
There is absolutely no question that you should order either the GIGABYTE or the MSI 460. End of story. Check out the other threads on the matter.
This has been discussed until everyone is blue in the face. The Palit one is cheap but noisy, Gigabyte is great value for money.
Thanks for the replies! Is the Gainward a disaster then? Is the gigabyte dual cooler silent? Can the Gigabyte one be overclocked further? Cheers
No, but the Gigabyte and the MSI are better Not silent, but as close as you are going to get with the 460 Further than normal? Yes, maybe a little, but I have no source. Also there is a MASSIVE thread on this, search the forums and have a read.
BUY GIGABYTE! Build quality is miles ahead of the competition and one of the few GTX 460 cards that actually has a heatsink attached to the VRM, which is kind of a good idea me thinks. Also the dual fans are very good for low noise levels and excellent cooling over the entire board. One other fact I hadn't mentioned in the other threads is that the external outputs (2xDVI, 1xmini-HDMI) are along one side of the dual slot design. So the other slot allows proper exhaust where as the Palit and Gainward have a stupid double stack of DVI outputs!
