So my shiny new Rampage Formula arrived today, though I can't start the system build or testing as the power supply is not due until tomorrow.

On inspection, I noticed the heatsink over the Southbridge sits at a slight angle. It seems to be that the heat pipe isn't allowing it to sit quite flat. I'm trying to get a picture but it's proving quite difficult.

I can't see any light shining through between the heatsink and the chip, so I guess there is some kind of thermal pad in-between as opposed to paste. Do you guys think this will be an issue? If so I can either return it, or replace the plastic clips holding it down with something more substantial...

Looks like the heatpipe is slightly bent to me - pressing down the back-side of the heatsink. :)

That's exactly it, if you push down on the raised sideyou can move it a little, but not enough to bend it - best option would be to replace the plastic push pins with something metal, but I currently don't know where to find something suitable...

To bend a little I'd have to remove the whole assembly.

Yeah You have to release it from the 2 plastic thing and bend it to fix it. That what I did with my Gigabyte.

I'm Thinking to change them to metal screws with Nuts. I think they will work perfectly. But I'm lazy to do it at this time.

That's Why if I'm gonna do it it would be better to do it now before I put it in the case!

I'm thinking possible nylon lock nuts, possibly with Nylon washers to to protect the back side of the mobo - may be difficult to incorperate springs though...

I need to haead to the DIY store anyway to pick up some cable ties, so I'll have a look

Just gently bend the heatpipe into the right shape, then use the push-pins? :(

What news on your Mobo Vers?

My case still hasnt's arrived :wallbash: so I've not even really started the build yet, probably end up cancelling the order and picking it up from a nearby shop on Saturday even though it'll cost a fair bit more at this rate!!!

Squiggs, My mobo just came in today and it is evenly spaced across the entire southbridge (actually looks as if its raised a bit). IMO there is no way to tell the heatpipe on your board is bent, especially from the images you posted. If I were you I'd leave it well alone and see what kind of reading your getting from it, I'm sure its no big deal. BTW my build begins in the AM...looks like I'll beat you to the punch ;)

UPDATE: Build went without a hitch--just gotta get used to Vista now.
