I was having a browse on the official Folding@Home forum today, and noticed that a new client has just been released. More details are on the official forum - link here: New Client Released - 7.6.9
Thanks for the update Doc, I will update as soon as my assigned WUs are done... BTW, I don't know if I'm the only one but I noticed some slowdown for a few days, my GPU is barely sought.... just mentioning
I'v just downloaded and installed the new version of @folding, odd thing is, my GPU doesn't appear at all ?? is it because it appears only when some WUs are affected on it?
Well, thanks for replying so fast Votick, yes, it seems that my GPU doesn't appear on my folding slots... TBH, today, I installed Windows 10 pro on this PC, then I installed missing drivers including the Radeon software relive 2020, then the @folding software and ran it, but may be there is a problem with the new GPU driver
most clearly, GPU isn't present... it's a pity, because I finally replaced my R9 nano and noticed it was working much better than with my RX 580,I had issues to find a 8.1 compatible driver for it, that's why I installed Windows 10 instead of 8.1 today, thinking to optimise it, and the result is the opposite, I wonder why there should be any issue with the new radeon relive version, it's supposed to install the latest drivers no? I shall try again the RX and see how it goes...
Kim - you need to add a GPU slot; Click on Configure, go to the Slots tab, click Add, and toggle the radio button alongside the GPU option, then click Save..
Mate ... it worked imediatly, thank you very much I feel like a moron, I could have spotted it out myself if I had scoured options a bit more
I come back on the topic after 2 days using the latest version of @folding......I experienced several display crashes already since monday computer stills running but my screen is off or worst things happening. A few minuts ago, the last crash of my screen happened again while I was writing here on BT; suddenly it turns to grey, the GPU fan starts spinning madly, other times it was blinking or changing the resolution every second ... I didn't have any issue with the previous version since I started folding, so I must uninstall it and run back the previous one to be sure it's nothing else but I am convinced it is that new version wich is causing issues.
Kim - it is highly unlikely that the client is causing the issues, it will either be an issue with your graphics or the graphics drivers. What temperatures are you seeing? Perhaps run a separate stress test on your graphics card to check it is OK.
Doc - first of all, TYVM to always give quick replies and to take time for others (like the dumbass I am ). I was pretty sure to get this reply "it is highly unlikely that the client is causing the issues", that's what I read several times in F@H forums that I scoured the previous days, and I can understand that it is unlikely the client's guilt, but lemme explain thoroughly the situation: The dedicated PC is the N°3 in my signature :FX8370/Gigabyte 970 Gaming/16 GO DDR3-Kingston HyperX/SSD M2-Samsung 960 evo 250GO /SSD SATA HYperX savage 1TO/Sapphire R9-Nano. But I also swapped the R9 with my brand new RX 580, observing the same result and similar issues. It was the exact same hardware with Windows 8.1 pro that I used for the whole previous month with no issues, except that I couldn't find a trustable driver for the RX 580 for W8.1, so I installed Windows 10 pro 64 bits, and the 2020 released of AMD Radeon software adrenaline, witch detect and install latests drivers itself, and I doubt it may be mistaken. About temps, as Coretemp is running all the time, I can assure you it's between 45 and 50 celcius degrees, not more. After uninstalling the client, this morning, I ran furmark for 1 hour with no issues. So here I am, and while I am writing this, I'm folding again but with the 7.5.1 version, without noting any issues. So...unless I skipped something, this is why I believed the new released was causing troubles... But, I can't be sure neither that it's the client's fault, there is one more option to consider : issues started since I installed Windows 10 , so it can be the origin of the troubles, I know it may sounds silly but I wanna explore all options, so I will re-install Windows 8.1 and the latest F@H version to verify this combination...to be continued
After many hours digging through and pulling my hair out I finally found the problem , you were right of course ; it was not the client, neither Windows 10 omg I was so stupid , things aren't always what they seem and sometimes it's so simple , anyway, the problem was only the windows standby options that I just forgot to turn off, after 30 mnts screen and PC were passing on standby state, yet, it was causing an issue still because it was crashing the graphic driver, and there was no way to get the display back but after turning off standby to" never" , I can fold again with the latest version with no crash. However, I experienced another issue, this time, after installing the new released, I cannot add my GPU like the first time, in my slot options, I mean, I do the same procedure: Advanced control/configure/slots/add/ then I tick GPU but when I save, the GPU doesn't appear into the slots and if I go back to the configuration tab, it's unticked again. But I will try to find out why and how to fix that.
Kim - Trouble-shooting is not always easy! I have had something similar in the past in relation to your next issue; It sounds like the GPUs.txt file was not found - it should be in C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient\ However, I think the new client downloads this automatically (about time!) after a while. So I would exit your Folding Client, and then re-run it and try picking a GPU slot again ...
