I need some help with my new laptop. It is a sony vaio s13p. The wireless works fine but it doesn't recognise when a ethernet cable is plugged into it. I looked on the sony website and there are no drivers for the ethernet port. So what do you guys think is the problem?
You could try the chipset drivers, I'm going to assume you have tested this ethernet cable in your PC (or other device). Also are there any issues in device manager, it would be listed under network adapters? You could also try and reset the BIOS. It really should be working out of the box, if it is not it would be suggesting there is an issue with the port so you might want to contact those that you purchased the laptop from.
The ethernet cable is fine (using it now), and no I just got my laptop yesterday. I will check the bios now.
Everything in the device manager is fine, but there is a warning sign next to the USB-IF xHCI USB Host Controller. As for the ethernet lights there are none on my new laptop and none on the wall where the net comes from. But on my old laptop there are and they are lighting up.
Can you get a screenshot of the network adapter in device manager? Just for piece of mind The port should have lights on it when connected. Can you try plugging in direct into the router, could be a wall socket issue
do you have sony network manager? their may be some settings there that you have to check. good luck.
