New motherboard won't post.

OK, this is a really weird problem. I just bought a ECS PF22 motherboard and put a Pentium D in it. It starts up and every fan spins, but it won't post. I've tried switching the videocard to a crappy PCI card and no difference. I've jumped the CMOS, swapped RAM, and made sure the voltage input was right. The only thing I can think of is a dead motherboard?

Does it make any beeps?

How did you make sure the voltage was right? Using a multimeter?

Does the PSU work on a different PC?

 

The most common thing I've come across when this happens is that the P4 power connection isnt connected to the motherboard. Easily done and seems quite common.

 

If the PSU is fine and the video cards are fine, the problem more than likely resides in either the processor or the motherboard. Find a way to swap one or the other and see if it starts working.

 

What is a P4 power connector? I have an Intel Pentium D. >< This is so frustrating yet weird.

 

Update: I looked at how it boots with the P4 ocnnector in and there is a series of blinking blue lights. Apparently that means the PCI-e connector isn;t attached so I connected that connector and now when i try to boot, all the lights go on for a brief moment before shutting off. It doesn't even boot with the correct connector in. Word.

 

With the PCI-E connector, is iit a standard one that comes with tyhe PSU or is it an extra cable, if its the latter make sure it has both molexes connected.

 

It's the former. Right now, i've reached the tentative conclusion that the CPU was DOA. I'm probably going to RMA it soon. The fact taht all the fans and LEDs work, but it won't post is, IMO, pointing towards the CPU. Still, if anyone has any advice, I'd love to hear it.

 

Have you read through the instruction manual?

Since you obviously didn't originally and thus missed the extra P4/4 pin connector. I would suggest you read through it thoroughly.

 

Yeah I have, but the bugger is in really bad engrish. The manual doesn't even mention the P4 connector and doesnt talk about the cmos jumper that keeps the board from posting (that's not my problem, though). I'm pretty sure I've done everything right.
