Hmm, patch 1.01 released the same day FEAR is. A new record?

I'm all for supporting the game, but that seems rediculous. On top of that, it's 22MB coming in at a lovely 50KB/s (on 4Mbit cable, so a tenth of what I'm capable of).

Anyone else think that's a bit nuts? I remember back in the day where you bought a game and it worked, no patches ever needed. I'm just wondering whether this'll become part of the new consoles since they're designed to be benefitted by a net connection for more than just online gaming...

Yeh that was kinda weird, but the patch came out the day AFTER F.E.A.R was released.

The record would be for 'Black & White 2' who had a patch ready to download the instance it was released.

Um, the FEAR patch WAS released the same day. I picked up my pre-order at lunch, and had to install the patch when I got home.

Remember that they finished the game weeks ago, then it has to go gold, then printed, then published etc, so our "same day release" is actually a long time ago.

Also, PCs years ago werent half as complicated as they are now. "3D" was a novel term.

Does this mean, that in the future, we will get patches every hour or so?

    Hmmm...

What happened to Bet on Soldier?
Wasn't it the same story? But with a patch @ ~800MB?!

It's probably that the dev's breathed a sigh of relief once it went gold, and then woke up that night @ 2 AM saying "OH SH*T! WE FORGOT TO FIX THAT!"

probably not, seeing as it probably wan't anything vital.

Don't you love buying a game and finding it has no working sound... and then after you download patch, it still does not fix the main problem... oh and when you find out in the forums how to fix it... You still face the game that crashes once certain objectives are executed in the game...

Age Of Empires 3... The game I would love to love.

Fear is not that bad of example, there were much worse this year.

AOEIII is pretty buggy, I must admit, but I have never had any more problems than sometimes one sound won't play or will be delayed. Anyway, there shouldn't be (many) bugs in the final version.

Nah, Serious Sam 2 beat it, it had the patch release BEFORE the game was released, I already had it downloaded before I got the game.
