Evening all, Recently I have invested in a 4tb hdd for my Plex server which currently runs on Ubuntu. Previously I have been using a 120gb ssd for the O/S and then 3 2tb hdds which are full of media and had been running seamlessly. I invested in a 4tb hdd as I have been running low on space and initially it seemed to work as a plug and play option, however it soon encountered errors and wasn't able to mount properly and generally didn't want to play ball. What is the best way to format the drive to be used as a storage drive, my other drives are in ext3/ext4. Is there a best way to set this up using terminal and have it auto mount on startup? Thanks in advance Dave
Was it formatted as NTFS? If so you may be having permissions issues. You can format it as EXT4 or XFS and it should be fine.
It was originally formatted as ext3 using the ubuntu disk tool however then refused to mount. i tried formatting on a windows pc, changed the disk from mbr to gpt and fromatted as ntfs however then had permission issues so deleted the volume. Currently the drive shows up in the disks utility with a 4tb volume in ext4 however when i try to mount I receive an error error mounting filesystem message recipient disconnected from message bus without replying (g-dbus-error-quark,4)
Hi Yeah, had to reformat the drive and create partitions in the terminal and all seems to be working as it should now and mounting on boot.
