My machine is starting to struggle to play the latest games, i mostly play mmorg but the odd shooter as well ( buying brutal legends when it comes out ). My current mobo abit fatality f190hd can i think upgrade to a q6600 or a faster c2d but im not sure if its time to scrap the build and go through for a new cpu/mobo/mem combo. Which route would be the most cash effective way forwards. Im worried that one of intels sockets i5 or i7 will be end of llved soon and i dont want to get stuffed.

    opps my budget is £200 - £250

then u cant do i5 or i7/1366 or 1156 at all since the cheapest cpu is £150 alone nevermind £80 for cheapest mobo and ddr3 as well.

am3 is possible for a x2 250 but thats not really an upgrade from a 4400

imo save some cash up and look after xmas

Try out another 2GB of RAM and see how your games run.

Best thing to do is get another 2gb of ram and overclock your cpu with some better cooling ( Titan Fenrir ). Any major performance jumps without getting a better core 2 chip are going to cost atleast double the price.
