i was thinking of upgrading my ntl connection to 600k so i can share it with my small bro the question is if i use a router does it split the speed in half so that it would be 300k going to both computer or is it something else that the router does?
it wouldnt split it like that. If only one of you was on at one time it should give you the full bandwidth. If both are on the same time and both downloading stuff at the same time it should then split the bandwidth in half.
... In theory. From experience, it doesn't always work that way and some applications appear to have a better ability to 'fight' for bandwidth than others. But unless you use some advanced management software, you won't be able to set a permanent 50/50 split.
from the kind people at ntl 600k is soon to be increased to 750k aswell and for all you lukcy people with 1mb you will be getting 1.5mb!!!!
oooh the nice free upgrade that also strangely co-incides with the tariff increase, oh well 50% more performance for an extra £3 a month isn't bad
