I'm not too sure how it was going to work but I would have given it a try as I'm a big fan of the franchise.

Well that's a bit annoying, why not release it! Maybe just as a digital download?

I can understand sega's perspective, they're carefully looking after a brand and a turn based RPG doesn't instantly lend itself to an Aliens game. Still, it could have been good and I'd still want to play it

I'm not sure I buy that.

I get the impression Obsidian's version of 'finished' is at odds with most people's interpretation of the word.

Sega have (on multiple occasions) shown their unhappiness with the quality of Alpha Protocol, leading to serious delays, so maybe they decided that Obsidian were spread too thin and cancelled the game for their own good?

Maybe. Then again, I saw Alpha Protocol in action last year and it was looking pretty good to me...

Sega arent really known for their great decisions are they?

This would defintely have been on my buy list, theres a lack of turn based games as it is.
And combining it with AvP, would have been godly.
And the majority of them are extremely popular are they not?

PIty they didnt just cancel AvP 3, terrible game anyway..

OffTopic : Sega needs to churn out another Virtual On! :X

OnTopic : Sega should have had at least allowed the public to decide by the way of a poll, or something.

Yeah I agree. I would say too that how close is close? Like are we saying one full year? Even when a game is complete they still polish it up. I feel it is only being said so as Sega takes more blame, although, Urquhart might be right about what he said.

    +1

You beat me to it but if this is as "finished" as KOTOR2 was at release then it may be that Sega's QA team have decided that it simply isn't up to spec and not likely to get there.

I am struggling to think how a Alien turn based RPG would work.

Surely the whole tension aspect of what makes the alien series so good (well the first two films anyway) would be lost if you had turn based encounters / combat.

Alpha Protocol probably shares much of the same devleopment as this Aliens RPG, so in a way I think they did.

Sounds very much like the old board game Space Hulk, which really was quite tense. As your marines were heading down a corridor, there would be a 'blip' counter on the board to represent the aliens. When you got line of sight to them, they'd be replaced with a number of models based on how many aliens made up the blip. Then you'd realise your lone marine was facing 3 of them, and try to run away as quickly as possible!

I ranted about KOTOR 2 for months, nay years after I finished it. If it wasn't for the quests you couldn't finish, the occasional conversations that made no sense and the completely screwed up ending it would be pretty much my favorite game ever. It had so much potential...

Man I loved that game! You're right Sega really need to get back to their roots, they've had so many kickass games back in the day.
